Nejib Belkadhi's uncanny documentary 'VHS-Kahloucha' delivers tribute to the method, madness and magic of amateur Tunisian filmmaker Moncef Kahloucha. A house painter in one of the poorest cities in the province of Sousse, driven by a passion for 1970s flicks, Kahloucha shoots his features on a VHS Panasonic 3500, recruiting locals for the cast, authoring script and dialogue, makeshift set, costumes and advertising campaign. Claiming such hits as I Had No Money and Now I'm Loaded and Misery to Get Rid of the Booze, Belkadhi's documentary follows Kahloucha as he shoots his most resent feature, 'Tarzan of the Arabs'. At the heart of the documentary is a celebration of the redemptive power of cinema and a man's insatiable and tireless passion for turning his fantasies into film.
