Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait
Halfway between a sports documentary and an conceptual art installation, Zidane consists in a full-length soccer game (Real Madrid vs. Villareal, April 23, 2005) entirely filmed from the perspective of soccer superstar Zinedine Zidane.
This film was inspired by Hellmuth Costard’s Soccer As Never Seen Before(1971), in which he filmed, in real time, with eight 16mm cameras, the legendary player George Best for the entirety of one game.
Scottish video artist Douglas Gordon manipulates time to question our memory and perception.
Algerian-born video artist Philippe Parreno interrogates the nature of images, often by reconstructing pre-existing materials.
Zinedine Zidane’s career accomplishments include 1998 FIFA World Cup, Euro 2000 championship, and 2002 UEFA Champions League championship. He retired from professional football after 2006 FIFA World Cup.
