The book is structured along the two broad categories of Lee Hyungkoo’s work: optical devices and fictitious fossil skeleton sculptures. The former exude an air of absurd precision and sinister obsession, while the pseudo-evolutionist sculptures in the latter category could plausibly be exhibits in a parallel universe’s natural history museum. The dual structure is reflected by the two different typographic styles employed in the book: the clean, almost hygienic Swiss modernism and the archaic, centered arrangement loosely based on the typography of the first edition of Charles Darwin’s On the Origin of Species.
