Cross Check: Sasa[44] / Hong Seung-Hye
Exhibition catalog

- two volumes, each 152 x 210 mm, 32 pp
Cross Check was a joint exhibition by two artists who have markedly different approaches. Each artist selected works to show from the other’s body of work and borrowed aspects of the counterpart’s approach to create new works. The graphic identity consists of words that are variously reassembled to articulate the information in a permutational manner. In isolation, some lines may look broken and confusing (who is Sasa Hong?). But they begin to make sense when they are read in relation to other lines.
The catalog is split into two 32-page booklets. The first volume contains a curatorial statement, an essay about Sasa[44]’s work, and the exhibition photos, and it is printed on matte paper. The second volume, printed on uncoated paper, presents Our Spot: Yeonhui-dong (two artists’ collaboration for this show), an interview with Hong Seung-Hye, and a note on the artists’ color scheme for the show. The booklets are visually connected by an exhibition view, half of which is printed on the last page of volume one and the other half on the first page of volume two, and physically held together by an unattached cover.
Some of the pages carry the content of Sasa[44] Annual Report 2020 in the gutter area.
