Explained presents verbal-only commentaries on 280 projects from our career as graphic designers. If a work of art is not to be explained but to be experienced, then this book proposes a reversal of the adage: if we don’t need an explanation to appreciate a work, can we appreciate the explanation without the work?

The first edition of the book appeared in 2017 in English and Korean in conjunction with our exhibition at Perigee Gallery, Seoul. In 2021, it was expanded and translated into Japanese by Goto Tetsuya and published as part of an exhibition at the Kyoto DDD Gallery. The Chinese edition of Explained [解释] was further expanded and made to coincide with another exhibition, Sulki & Min: Clarifying & Obscuring at Transtage, Hangzhou. The translator is Zhao Wanqing, one of the curators of the show.
