Never-Alone-cover

Published in conjunction with an exhibition of the first video game collection acquired by the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York, this book explores video games not merely as a form of entertainment but as an interface between humans and computers. In line with the exhibition’s nature (namely, the black box in the white cube), the entire book is made of black pages. The lettering on the cover and section openings is based on the characters used in the early vector-based video game, Tempest (1981), reconstructed against the book’s page grid. The nebula-like image on the cover is from the universe map of Eve Online (2003); the sole yellow dot amid the numerous silver stars is meant to echo the title.
